BlackBerry Prepares Rp 1 trillion to Develop Cars Otonomos

Ottawa - BlackBerry reported more and more seriously penetrated the automotive business. After ensuring no longer produce its own smartphone, now a Canadian company that plans to invest in the development of vehicles otonomos.

According to a report by Reuters on Tuesday (20/12/2016), the BlackBerry will berinvetasi approximately US $ 75 million or around Rp 1 trillion for the development of this technology. As a long-term investment, BlackBerry will use most of the money to support the technical work.

According BlackBerry CEO John Chen, the company will hire more engineers over the time. According to the plan, the company wants to add up to 650 engineers for the development of this program.

The unit is now called QNX that, previously named the BlackBerry QNX, now has 400 engineers. Overall, the BlackBerry itself now has 5,000 employees.

Through this investment, BlackBerry hopes to sign as a vehicle pembesut otonomos that counts in the world. Moreover, the company has advantages in terms of security, not only for users but also the system used.

To that end, the company has started cooperation with component suppliers such as PolySync, and semiconductor company Renesas Electronics Corp. Blakcberry also took Univesity of Waterloo in this otonomos vehicle project.

For information, the BlackBerry is not the only technology company that also has a development plan otonomos vehicle. A number of other technology companies, such as Google and Apple is known to have had a similar project.
